Start nowAchalasia, an unusual conditon where food cannot pass easily from the food pipe to the stomach, often requires surgical treatment. Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is a minimally-invasive, surgical procedure used to fcailitate the passage of food. We invited highly respcted consultant colorectal and general surgeon Mr Amyn Haji to explain how the procedure is performed and the risks and advantages it offers patients.
Robotic surgery has transformed the treatment of colorectal cancer, offering a minimally invasive approach that enhances precision, reduces recovery time and improves patient outcomes. This advanced technique allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater accuracy and control than traditional open or laparoscopic surgery.
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an advanced minimally invasive technique used to remove certain types of gastrointestinal (GI) tumours and precancerous lesions. Originally developed in Japan, it's done to treat early-stage cancers in the oesophagus, stomach, and colon. ESD allows complete removal of abnormal tissue in one piece, offering a potential cure while avoiding major surgery.
